Well, I think I’ve sufficiently recovered from the epic Hot Cross Bun tasting, to attempt another Best in Melbourne post.

Footy finals are approaching, so I thought perhaps “Best Meat Pie” might be a handy thing to know before your Grand Final party.

Suggestions, please, as to which pies ought to be included in the tasting? I’m thinking we’d better stick with the basic meat pie, for consistency’s sake.

It might be an obvious suggestion but I’m for Boscastle.

I have to throw my vegan hat in the ring and beg you to try the La Panella “meat” pies from Preston…. they are delicious and so like the real thing its kind of weird….

According to my husband, D Chirico in St Kilda!

Although I’m not sure it would fit the description of “basic”. It’s not mince. Nice chunks of meat. Worth a taste for fun at least!

Beechworth Bakery Healesville, both beef & chicken pies are delish.

Dinkum Pies in Block Place may not be the best but they are iconic. Their pies should be in the mix!

Wiiliamson’s at 253 Chapel st Prahran, consistently delicious

Not sure if I am qualified to judge the best as I am not a huge pie consumer but Phil’s Pies and Pastries in the small Parkhill Rise Shopping Centre in Narre Warren (bordering on Berwick?) does a very fine job on a rather good selection. Their free pie offer is a good deal too for the budget conscious. Just had one of their Jolly Jumbuck pies as a quick (lazy) meal last night. Lots of lovely chunky pieces of lamb.
